The latest South Orange County Chamber of Commerce meeting was an interesting one. The latest meeting featured only one speaker but that speaker presented those in attendance with a wealth of information and a very interesting speech.
That speaker was Debbie Lewandowski with Spotlight, and your Orange County networking specialist! The focus of Debbie’s speech was listening skills and ways to better learn from your prospects and your existing clients.
As listening is an important part of communication is comes as no surprise that Debbie placed an emphasis on networking. Then she stressed that networking is about who knows you and not what you know and that it takes anywhere from 5 to 12 impressions to be remembered and kept on the forefront of the minds of people you meet. Debbie was also quick to point out that most business owners are preoccupied with running their business which leaves them with little time to be out of the community exposing their business properly. This is where Debbie comes in. When you hire Debbie to be your outsourced sales person she becomes a walking and talking billboard as well as an advertisement for your company.
After speaking about the importance of listening and networking Debbie offered the crowd a few networking tips. These were as follows:
- Wear your name badge on the right when you go to shake hands so that it’s closer is easier to read.
- Be mindful of your handshakes, you don’t want any bone crusher’s or limp fish.
- Never criticize your competition. It makes you look desperate and unprofessional.
- Carefully choose which groups you’re going to associate with and then participate fully.
- Your attitude is crucial and body language is noticed far more than the words that come out of your mouth.
- Be sure to follow up with the people you meet and make time to draft and send them e-mails or connect with them online through social media sites.
- Never sell at a networking event, if you add value you’ll make sales plain and simple.
- Try to sit with people whom you do not know. Networking is all about meeting new people not socializing with the ones you are already familiar with.
Be sure to contact Debbie Lewandowski when you need help getting the word on your business out there!
